Trade mission to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Ms Jeanne Crauser, Ambassador-designate of Luxembourg to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, took part in the trade mission to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan led by Ms Cindy Tereba, CTO/Director on International Affairs of the Chamber of Commerce, from 6 to 9 October 2026 in Almaty and Tashkent.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are emerging as increasingly important economic and technological hubs in Central Asia. Kazakhstan’s strategic location between Europe and Asia, combined with Uzbekistan’s ongoing economic reforms and rapid market development, is creating favourable conditions for international cooperation, innovation and investment. The mission provided Luxembourg companies with an opportunity to explore business prospects in high-growth sectors, including digitalisation, smart industry, infrastructure, and advanced technologies.

The mission began in Almaty with the Luxembourg-Kazakhstan Business Forum, which brought together participants from the Luxembourg and Kazakh business communities to discuss existing and potential opportunities for cooperation. Ms Jeanne Crauser delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the potential to further strengthen economic ties between Luxembourg and Kazakhstan.

During her stay in Almaty, Ms Crauser also met with Mr Denis Van den Weghe, President of the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the Chamber’s ongoing and upcoming activities in Kazakhstan, as well as opportunities for closer cooperation. She also met with Mr Marc Bassot, the recently appointed Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in Kazakhstan.

The Luxembourg delegation visited Almaty Hub, major regional IT and innovation center affiliated with Astana Hub, focused on accelerating tech startups, digital education, and community collaboration. The delegation also visited Alatau City, major planned smart city project in Kazakhstan close to Almaty. The programme in Almaty concluded with a networking reception, allowing participants to further develop the connections initiated throughout the mission.

On the third day of the mission, the delegation travelled to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. During her stay in Tashkent, Ms Crauser met with the Head of the EU Delegation and Ambassador of Belgium to exchange views on a broad range of multilateral and regional issues. She also met with Ms Nigora Karimova, the recently appointed Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in Uzbekistan.

The mission concluded with the Luxembourg-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Tashkent, which enable participants to explore new avenues for cooperation across a range of key sectors. The Luxembourg delegation also visited the Uzbekistan office of Luxembourg-based company Qualqore, where they learned more about the company’s experience in Uzbekistan and its ongoing development projects.

The mission highlighted the growing potential for closer economic and business ties between Luxembourg, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, while providing Luxembourg companies with valuable opportunities to establish new contacts, explore emerging markets and identify avenues for future cooperation.
